The Pixie Do: Classic v. New Hollywood

Last post of the day my dears.

These days, every young hollywood star seems to be jumping on board the pixie boat. Of course, really Hollywood stars have been chopping off their locks for years, which, of course, begs the question, who looks best in the pixie cut? Classic Hollywood or Current Hollywood?

1. An American in Paris: Anne Hathaway v. Leslie Caron. Anne Hathaway is currently filming her new rom com called One Day, in gay Par-ee. Of course, once upon a time, Leslie Caron filmed the classic musical An American in Paris in the City of Lights (or a reasonable soundstage facsimile thereof). We actually love Anne's new hair and think her dress mimics the '50s style of the Vincent Minelli classic beautifully. We also love the curl effect in Leslie Caron's pixie do. Verdict: We truly like Anne's pixie, but it's a bit of a shame to have seen her cut her beautiful hair. Leslie Caron, on the other hand, never looked great with long hair in our opinion, so the pixie should have been her only option. Leslie Caron wins.

2. The Ingenue: Carey Mulligan v. Mia Farrow: Carey Mulligan made a name for herself in An Education, playing a young girl mixed up in an affair with an older man (you are required to see this film if you have not, both the film and Carey are wonderful!). Mia Farrow, on the other hand, made her name playing fragile young things in Rosemary's Baby and the Great Gatsby. Both have wicked fashion senses. We would like to point out Carey's adorable ensemble here, including her super fierce shoes (we are trying to locate the designer as we love them so very much). In fact, Carey is soon becoming a force to be reckoned within our fierce fashionista category. She is one to watch. Mia Farrow was similarly on the cutting edge of fashion. We actually think Mia's dress would look totally gorge on Carey. Verdict: Mia's fab for sure and this one is difficult to decide, but the fact that Mia married Woody Allen means she's got a screw lose. Therefore, Carey wins.

3. Total Mod: Emma Watson v. Twiggy. Twiggy was practically the face of Mod fashion and her unique look inspired the face of modeldom forever more. Emma Watson has been the face of all things Potter since she was a child, and Hogwarts' preppy uniforms certainly fit within the mod universe. More importantly though, Ms. Watson was also the face of Burberry for a brief time. I can't think of anything other than the Who that reminds me more of Mod than plaid-lined khaki trench coats. So, watch out rockers because, not only does Emma know her mod style, but she totally rocks her pixie do. Verdict: Again. This is difficult to decide, but based on Twiggy's subpar performance on America's Next Top Model, we're going with Emma. Twiggy, you never should have let Tyra bully you.

4. The sophisticate: Ginnifer Goodwin v. Audrey Hepburn. Hmmm. Sorry Ginny, you really have no shot in this match up, although I do think your hair is styled pretty adorably in this pic.I've never really thought your pixie suited you, however. As one girl with a round face to another, I am allowed to say that the pixie + a round face is not the best of ideas. I also believe that you decided on this hair because you thought it would make you look less cutesy and more sophisticated. To some extent, it has worked. But you're still just a silly little girl. Verdict: We're talking about Audrey Hepburn here. Nothing further need be said. Ginny loses.

It's Audrey Hepburn silly.

And so, we have a tie. Help me out dear hearts.

Who does it better? Classic or Modern Hollywood?

Goodnight gentle people,
Mrs. Fashionista

P.S. Hope everyone caught Bourdain. We were very hungry after watching the episode.

  1. Well readers, I tried to get fancy by including an actual poll. Unfortunately, that didn't work out. So, if you'd like, feel free to just tell me in the comments section whose pixie you like the best. I'm leaning towards classic at this point, but that Carey Mulligan is so adorable, who knows what I might do.
