The Great Pumpkin at Milan Fashion Week

Just in time for the Halloween season, we present the Great Pumpkin. In all fairness to Raf Simons who designed the 2011 Spring Jil Sander Collection, we actually loved several of his looks recently shown at Milan Fashion Week.  In the collection, Mr. Simons played with both volume and layering of garments in unexpected ways with fantastically bright colors. This look, however, was not one of the looks that we loved. The proportions of this dress are, in a word, enormous. We can't imagine how a normal person would ever wear this, except of course as a halloween costume.

The Deflated Pumpkin. Much, much better than the alternative. We actually think this dress is pretty adorable and was a successful experiment in proportion.

The T-Shirt Dress. One of our fave looks from the Jil Sander collection was this t-shirt dress (shirt and skirt?), which we think could be worn in a variety of situations. From a casual day look with flip flops to dressed up with jewelry, heels, and a metallic belt (although we love the solid white and would hate to break that up with a belt).

T-shirt, pants, with ruffle skirt? The ruffle, which appears to be attached to the t-shirt almost appears to be a skirt, and is somewhat odd. But we also think it totally works, is totally unexpected, and we totally love it.

Voluminous proportions done right. Unlike the pumpkin, this dress is just gorgeous. Yet, while it would look fantastic on someone tall and skinny, it could easily overwhelm someone short.

Mod with reverse pockets? The upside down pockets/ruffles are kind of wacky on this shift dress, but we also kind of love them.
What do you think, dear hearts, of the latest Jil Sander collection?

  1. I am going to have to give the thumbs down to this collection. That first one was just a nightmare. I did love the second to last one, but the last one looks like something one of my dolls fro the 80's would have worn.

  2. Most of them are totally ug, but would you think that i was crazy if I told you that I loved the pants with the ruffle skirt? Who could even wear that first one? It is flattering on no one.

  3. The more I look at this collection, the more I start to love it. I still hate the first outfit, but I am really starting to adore everything else. I think the first time I looked at it, I was so distracted by the first one. As always, I should trust your taste.
