Recently, certain young starlets have been getting attention for being snazzy dressers, when they don't perhaps deserve such high praise--we're looking at you Lea Michele. While we very much appreciate Lea's style and her fantastic rendition of Don't Rain on My Parade, she doesn't really take a lot of chances with her attire. Don't get me wrong, we love most of her fashion choices, we just think there are others more worthy of our Fashionista title. All of our nominees for fiercest fashionista take chances with their wardrobe which we think the media all too often punishes them for. The media is, of course, wrong and Mrs. Fashionista is, of course, always right. And the nominees are:
1. Zoe Saldana
Here is the dress that first made us take notice of this Latina fashionista. A good bit of the press gave her hell for it. For me, this was the dress at the 2010 Oscars. Zoe also made a statement in this beautiful orange Lanvin earlier this year.

On the left below, the stylish and beautiful Ms. Saldana models Calvin Klein as the new face of Calvin Klein. The Vionnet dress on the right, we are ab-sol-utely in love with. The Lanvin and Calvin dresses are beautiful and quite nice on Zoe, but she was starting to get a little safe, and then POW. A little black lace, a dramatic v, and we're loving the demure braids with that drama. Bravo girl.

Finally, this next look isn't exactly the most unique in the world, but the collar is all drama and the shoes are amazing. Zoe never forgets about the details that's for sure. Zoe wore a MaxMara confection to pick up her "Face of the Future" award at the Crystal + Lucy Awards. Oh, did I forget to mention the fab shoes? Christian Louboutins, of course.
2. Marion Cotillard
Where do we start with the divine Ms. C? I think we must go back to the 2008 Oscars when she showed up in a mermaid dress by Jean Paul Gaultier. Bonjours to you, too, Mademoiselle! I remember being amazed by the shimmery scales on this dress and thinking Marion what's-her-face sure is gorge and wow-can-she-dress! She really hasn't let me down since. Never one to bore, Ms. C is constantly surprising us, most of the time for the better (although she does have an occasional miss). Fast forward to the 2010 SAG awards. Again daring us in white, with a dramatic shoulder and some dramatic shoes to match. She is just soooo very French. I am convinced that, in real life, she is exactly like the sassy waitress she played in "A Good Year." Eat your heart out Russell Crowe.

Next up. The 2010 Costume Institute. In none other than Christian Dior (see left pic below). I have somewhat mixed feelings on this gown. It is, in a word, stunning. Ms. C looks like she stepped out of a Garbo film, but it also looks as if she has been eating bon bons along the Seine. Of course, c'est impossible! As such, I blame her missing waist on bad tailoring. Overall though, my first impression of this gown was...triple wow. At Cannes this year, Ms. C wore a Lefranc-Ferrant jumpsuit (see right pic below). At first, I thought no, no, no. But now I kind of love it. Her hair is gorgeous and her shoes have some sort of sheer bondage theme going, which I find interesting and convincing. Love it. Few could pull this look off, but our dear little Marion most definitely can.
And then there's the sack dress (see photo to the right). With every risk taker, we are bound to end up with some duds. A sad flapper dress with black straight jacket shoes is never a good idea (and it looks like Ms. Cotillard knows this from the expression on her face). And yet, do I dare say, I almost think she pulled it off? With less formidable shoes and without that black edging on the dress, I think this could have worked as a feminine, breezy updated flapper look.
Ooh. We also wanted to show this super chic dress (in photo to the left) from the 2008 Paris Fashion week. Obviously, this photo was taken awhile ago. But we just loved everything about it so much, that we felt the need to post it. It's exactly how we would want to dress if we were in Paris, during fashion week, after viewing couture gowns, on our way to a cafe to read Madame Bovary.
3. Diane Kruger
And finally, Fraulein Kruger. We love F. Kruger for many reasons. She is perhaps the biggest fashion risk taker in Hollywood today. Plus, she's in love with Pacey (and we used to be in love with Pacey, too!). Now then, on to business.

Cannes in Ludivine Sagnier. |
Helen of Troy, however, also had a misstep at Cannes when she showed up in Judy Jetson's prom dress. Something about this just screams space cadet to us. And we are hating the white band at the bottom of the dress where the top is already busy with details. Without the white band, we think this dress really would have worked. On the other hand, without the white band, the dress wouldn't have been nearly as interesting.
At the Cinema Against AIDS 2010 Gala, the Fraulein wore Chanel. (see below for two different views of her gown). Hmmm. we're tapping our fingers on this one. Yet another one of her crazy get-ups.We love her hair jewelry and the view from the back is gorge. From the front, however, she kind of looks like a high price call girl/ can can dancer.
Chanel at the Oscars |
Going back, even further in the year, Diane wore another controversial Chanel creation. We didn't hate the Fraulein's 2010 Oscars dress quite as much as everyone else seemed to (see photo to the right). We do think, however, that it didn't quite fit right and would have been impeccable if that waistline were raised just a bit higher on her torso. Her makeup and hair are flawless, however.

Golden Globes in Christian Lacroix |
When this all began, we really thought Marion was going to knock it out of the park, but here we are with what seems to be dozens of Diane Kruger dresses. She is brave, she is beautiful, and most of the time it works. We love her. And Inglourious Basterds is one of our very fave films.
In other words, the Frauline, Diane Kruger, is the Fiercest Fashionista in Hollywood. Congrats!
