She's got legs...sheer energy legs. Anyone else remember that commercial? Anyway, another of the great fashion trends on the Paris runways (and, indeed, in NYC, London and Milan) was sheer fabrics, exposing legs, arms, midriffs, breasts. You name it, it was exposed. At its worst, it reminded us of the horrible Kelly Taylor (of the original Beverly Hills 90210) type blouses we wore at the beginning of high school. At its best, it was beautiful and so totally 2010.
And so standing in for the pregnant Rachel Zoe, we present some of our fave sheer looks from Paris and the actresses we believe would look smashing in them...
1. Sheer with Flourishes.
Sarah Burton, who had the insanely difficult task of designing the Alexander McQueen collection for next spring, showed many a dramatic look. We were, however, most drawn to her nymph like creations. Wearable? In the right circles on the right ladies we think they might just be.
For instance, we could see this black dress on someone like Zoe Saldana (we certainly like to put dresses on that gal don't we?).
We also think this golden cloud of a gown could look beautiful on Sarah Jessica Parker who we certainly know wouldn't be afraid to try it on. Plus, we think the gold would look beautiful with her hair and complexion. Our only concern would be that she would not be tall enough to make the proportions look right. If it the dress ended up looking too squat on SJP, we think Rihanna (who according to IMDB is 5'10") definitely has the height to do the gown justice. Plus, we think Rhi Rhi would look both elegant and edgy, but soft, in this gown (although the new red, red hair might not quite work).
For this look by Chanel, we knew we needed yet another edgy gal, with a fabulous pair of legs to boot. In other words, Cameron Diaz could definitely rock this look.
2. As Pretty as a Ballerina. Other designers stayed away from the elaborate sheer designs and let the sheer speak for itself in dresses seemingly inspired by pointe shoes and pirhouettes. One of our fave looks was from Stefano Pilati's YSL line. We love the neckline, the high cut leg on the "solid" layer, and the sheer navy was surprising and super sophisticated next to mostly pastel-colored sheers.Only a gal confident with her body could pull this off, as the entire length of her leg is shown off with the navy sheer fabric. We think Jessica Alba could be that girl.
We also adored this very literal ballerina look from Chloe. And because this look is so very literal, we thought it required an actress who literally looks like a ballerina. Who is tall and skinny and looks like she can contort? It's gotta be Keira Knightley.
Stay tuned for Part 3 of Rachel Zoe in Paris...
You are definitely showing Keira love this weekend and I agree. I am glad to see that I was not the only one making bad fashion choices in the early 90's.
ReplyDeleteFor the first dress, I would say Uma Thurman. For the second one I would say Scarlett Johansen. Just to throw out some different names. I still prefer your choices.
Oh, I absolutely hate the last one. It reminds me of what Tyra wears during the intro of Top Model.
ReplyDeleteI think that I might switch Zoe and Rhiana's dresses.
ReplyDeleteRachel--Good call on Scarlett Johanssen.
